our purpose

NZ On Air’s music mission was first established in 1991 to fund, promote and prosper New Zealand music on New Zealand radio and television. Major changes from 1 July 2011 will see a more diverse range of artists being supported for broadcast outcomes across a wider range of broadcast and digital platforms.

NZ On Air funds single recording and music video projects through the Making Tracks scheme, along with radio and music television programmes, and promotes NZ songs via the monthly Kiwi Hit Disc distributed to all local radio stations, media and associated industry.
